Clare is a vocal specialist whom, having completed her BA Hons music degree at Bretton Hall College, then studied her PGCE teaching qualification in Manchester and is currently Head of Music at Upton by Chester High School, Chester. She is an active performer with local groups and, with over 30 years stage experience, she can include musical theatre, opera, panto, oratorio, solo song, farce and Shakespearean plays to her repertoire. Clare has also taught singing at Theatre Train Chester.
Clare is passionate about musical theatre, most recently performing with the wonderful Tip Top Productions as Ado Annie in Oklahoma!, August 2016. She has also toured the Midlands and North West with a new production, The Porridge Opera, by the internationally acclaimed composer Paul Graham Brown.
However, Clare is addicted to costume-making! As a performer, she has made most of her own costumes and as a teacher, has produced endless costumes for school productions over the past 26 years. She began by sewing her very first costumes on a hand sewing machine that her Mum bought her, aged 10, gaining her A Level Art Textile qualification in 2005 and a City and Guild Diploma in Theatre Costume. Clare also has skills in goldwork, beadwork and stumpwork, which she readily uses to embellish her costume designs. Recent shows she has costumed include: Much Ado about Nothing, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Sister Act, Grease, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, The Greatest Showman and Aladdin. Clare is absolutely delighted to be part of such a vibrant and exciting youth company and is looking forward to continuing her true costume passion with OTMYT.
