Phil’s career as a performer began at a young age; he played the title roles in the touring productions of Tommy and Oliver as well as several productions locally. He later trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London giving him the opportunity to work on screen, featuring in Starburst and Daily Telegraph ads, My Parents are Aliens and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. In 2006 he toured as Benjamin in Bill Kenwright’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Since he was a teenager Phil has taken a keen interest in directing and teaching, and has over 20 years experience, teaching across the country including Stagecoach and the Sylvia Young Theatre School. He has led workshops for The Royal Exchange, Delfont Mackintosh Theatre Group and Action Transport Theatre and he has worked in the West End as Children’s director on Cameron Mackintosh’s Oliver and Drama Coach for Disney’s Lion King. Phil also did a short stint as a TV and Radio commercial producer working with companies such as Google, British Airways, Virgin Media, Dulux and Weetabix.
Since moving back to Chester, Phil has directed My Fair Lady at Theatr Clwyd, This is My Musical, Three Little Pigs, The Twits, Soap Opera the Musical, The Witches, and The Boy who Fell into a Book for Tip Top productions, and [title of show] for New AJE Productions.
In 2015 he founded Chester Wizard School, a sell-out immersive Halloween event for families inspired by the world of Harry Potter. Phil is also founder and partner of Mostyn and Cross, a talent management agency.
